OFC 2021

This June, Ethernet Alliance participated in the virtual OFC conference with a filmed interoperability demonstration, an interactive virtual exhibit and panel discussion.

Interoperability Demo

Involving 11 Ethernet Alliance member companies, the demonstration showcased 800 Gigabit per second (Gbps) capacity-per-port equipment and multivendor interoperability across 25 Gigabit Ethernet (25GbE), 50GbE, 100GbE, 200GbE and 400GbE technologies and solutions in a variety of form factors, media and reaches. It was staged and filmed at Teledyne LeCroy, Inc., in Austin, Texas.

New 400G devices are interoperating with each other over all the mediums you could expect to see Ethernet in (DACs, AOCs, Optics, Backplane) as well as mature ports that would be in the field for years. We also have a glimpse of what’s to come, in the form of Amphenol/TE Connectivity 800G channels driven by Marvell PHY going into Tektronix/Keysight equipment.

There are multiple touchpoints of interoperability in every nook and cranny of this fabric; Juniper Networks optics are connecting to Broadcom optics in Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks and Marvell switches through Amphenol, Panduit and TE Connectivity cabling while being driven through by Spirent and Keysight traffic generators and a Teledyne LeCroy protocol analyzer.

Panel Discussion | Why Ethernet? Why Now?

Ethernet has become the most ubiquitous method for networking computers and peripherals today! Not only is Ethernet used in high-speed applications in enterprise data centers, cloud providers and service providers, it is also used in industrial and building automation and even automobiles.

Ethernet’s many operating speeds and various interconnects make it ideal for what appears to be a diverse set of technologies, however they all share the same need to transfer data from device to device safely and securely.  In addition, Ethernet’s configurability from 1Gb/s to 400Gb/s lends itself quite nicely to the broad spectrum of application spaces it is now used in.

With the coming of newest 400Gb/S and 800Gb/s speeds and latest form factors, Ethernet’s continued advancement is ensured.
