KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: Bob Metcalfe – UT Austin Professor of Innovation, and inventor of Ethernet On May 22, 1973, Dr. Robert M. Metcalfe wrote a now-famous memo at Xerox PARC inventing Ethernet, the Internet packet plumbing standard, which as of today ships more than a billion new wired and WiFi ports per year. On June 4, 1979, he founded 3Com Corporation, which earned $5.7 billion in revenue in 1999 and joined HP in 2010. In 2006, Dr. Metcalfe received the National Medal of Technology for “leadership in the invention, standardization, and commercialization of Ethernet.” He has also served as Advisory Director of the Metro Ethernet Forum since 2003 and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. |

Featured Speaker: David Law, IEEE-SA David Law is a Distinguished Engineer at Hewlett-Packard Networking and has worked on the specification and development of Ethernet products since 1989. Throughout that time he has been a member of the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group where he has held a number of leadership positions. He served as the Vice-Chair of IEEE 802.3 from 1996 to 2008 and in 2008 was elected to Chair of IEEE 802.3. David has been a member of the IEEE-SA Standards Board since 2005, currently he serves as the Vice-Chair of the IEEE-SA Standards Board, and is Chair of the IEEE-SA Standards Board Patent Committee (PatCom). In 2000 he received the IEEE-SA Standards Medallion, 2009 he received the IEEE-SA Standards Board Distinguished Service award and in 2012 he received the IEEE-SA International Award. David has a BEng (hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland. |
