Ethernet Alliance is proud to play a role in driving Ethernet technology innovation and its use across a growing range of markets and application spaces.  As the industry voice of Ethernet, the Alliance is the leading incubator for new Ethernet technologies and facilitates their transition from standardization to widespread adoption. Our approach to doing so encompasses a wide variety of initiatives, including proactive educational outreach, and highlighting  Ethernet’s value with the media.

In this blog, we offer a quarterly digest of articles and resources featuring Ethernet Alliance experts sharing timely insights and updates on Ethernet technologies.

Ethernet’s Bright Future

2024 kicked off with a compelling look at where Ethernet is headed. In their Fast Mode article, Oh, the Places You’ll Go – Ethernet Edition, Ethernet Alliance President Chris Lyon of Amphenol, and member representative Michael Klempa of Alphawave Semi discuss emerging trends and coming innovations for 2024 and beyond, and how Ethernet is pushing the envelope for next-generation interconnectivity.

Interview with the Masters of Ethernet Interoperability

Ethernet Alliance Chair, Peter Jones of Cisco joined forces with Ethernet Alliance Higher Speed Networking Subcommittee Co-Chair Sam Johnson of Intel for an enlightening discussion with tech influencer Evan Kirstel (@evankirste). In What’s Up with Tech? Elevating Network Collaboration with the Masters of Ethernet Interoperability, they deep-dive into the role the Ethernet Alliance plays in ensuring device compatibility. The interview is available as both a podcast and an article.

State of the PoE Market – New Infographic

In 2024, the Ethernet Alliance Power over Ethernet (PoE) Committee conducted a survey aimed at gauging the state of the PoE market. The findings uncovered important insights, which have been encapsulated into a new infographic. Illustrating persistent PoE challenges, the graphic shows how the Ethernet Alliance PoE Certification Program streamlines integration and ensures reliable operation. The Ethernet Alliance Power Over Ethernet Infographic is available for download on our website.

For a closer look at key takeaways from our PoE survey findings, check out Q&A: The State of the PoE Market. In this interview, Ethernet Alliance PoE Committee Chair David Tremblay of HPE and Ethernet Alliance member Mark Mullins of Fluke Networks examine the survey results and the transformative impact of the Ethernet Alliance PoE Certification Program. Following the Q&A, David and Mark teamed up for a discussion with All About Circuits. In You’ve Got the Power—Ensuring Interoperability for Power Over Ethernet Devices, they share how the Ethernet Alliance Certified test plan and PoE certification can maximize product success while minimizing expensive recalls and post-launch redesigns.

OFC 2024: Go Large or Go Home

With 20 participating member companies representing the whole of the Ethernet ecosystem, OFC 2024 played host to one of the largest Ethernet Alliance contingents ever. Uniting for a spectacular display that showcased Ethernet’s unparalleled interoperability, the demo attracted great interest from OFC 2024 attendees, media, and industry analysts. Among Ethernet Alliance members contributing were Alphawave Semi; AMD; Amphenol; Anritsu; Arista Networks; Cisco Systems; Exfo; Hyper Photonix; Juniper Networks; Keysight Technologies; Marvell Technology; MultiLane; Panduit; Spectra7 Microsystems; Spirent Communications; Synopsys; TE Connectivity; Teledyne LeCroy; Xena Networks; VeEX; and Wilder Technologies.

This year’s exhibit was augmented by a cutting-edge LPO display illustrating Ethernet’s capacity for handling hyperscale, AI/ML workloads, and other demanding applications. Details about the demo, LPO installation, and comments from member companies are available in our OFC 2024 press release.

The Ethernet Alliance’s OFC 2024 presence was further augmented by two member company guest blogs. Enabling Next-Generation AI Applications with 800G/1.6T Ethernet by Synopsys explores the vital role Ethernet will play in artificial intelligence. Anritsu’s High-Speed Data on the Move: How 400G ZR and ZR+ Optics are Changing the Game guest blog helps explain how 400G ZR and ZR+ optics are revolutionizing the field of high-speed data transmission.

2024 Ethernet Roadmap Makes its Debut

In advance of OFC 2024, the Ethernet Alliance 2024 Ethernet Roadmap made its grand debut. The industry’s only publicly available Ethernet roadmap, it chronicles Ethernet’s past, while charting out a bold course for its present and future. Learn more about the 2024 edition, including new updates and additions, in our Charting a Bold Future: 2024 Ethernet Roadmap blog post.

The full-color illustrated roadmap is available on our Ethernet Roadmap page. We encourage you to download and use the images in presentations, webinars, and articles, and ask that you attribute Ethernet Alliance as the source for all related artwork.
