Panel: BASE-T Ethernet: 1G/10G, 40G Coming Soon, Are 2.5G and 25G Coming Too?

Abstract:

BASE-T Ethernet has provided a users’ an unique migration path for connectivity with multispeed ports, auto negotiation and a single connector interface that has become the popular icon for an Ethernet port – the RJ-45.  This panel discussion will explore BASE-T as a model for handling a multitude of rates, including: the unexpected continued growth of 1Gig Ethernet, the emergence of 10GBASE-T, standardization progress of 40GBASE-T, and potential impacts and forms of other rates, such as 2.5G and 25G BASE-T, should they emerge. Evolution of ecosystem components (e.g., MACs, controllers, switch silicon, and cabling), including changes in network topology and migration of the cabling infrastructure will be considered.  Panel discussion will include OEM perspectives, PHY perspectives, infrastructure, and standardization perspectives.
